Jessica Colarossi is an award-winning writer and editor in Boston, MA. She’s a trained journalist and institutional science writer who specializes in crafting stories that weave science into narrative, while carefully translating scientific discoveries to simple language. She’s a full time science writer at the Broad Institute where she creates web content, news stories, explainers, bios, social media copy, and written material for internal and external newsletters. Previously, she served as the senior-most science writer for Boston University’s central research magazine The Brink where she reported on research from BU’s 17 schools and colleges. The breadth of topics she covers includes climate, ecology, astronomy, public health, medicine and biology, engineering, and more. Many of her stories make inaccessible science relatable to readers and highlight human endeavors into the scientific process.

In 2025, she received an honorable mention by the National Association of Science Writers Excellence in Institutional Writing Awards, for a story about women’s health research. In 2024, a story she wrote for The Brink was awarded Best Writing in Research, Medicine, and Science News District 1 by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). She also cowrote an award-winning story about a beached whale that was recognized as a finalist for Article of the Year by CASE in 2019. Jessica participated in the renowned Bread Loaf Environmental Writer’s Conference at Middlebury College during the summer of 2022. She’s also an experienced speaker, and has given guest lectures on science, climate change, and environmental writing at Emerson College and at William and Mary College.

At the beginning of her career, she wrote about women entrepreneurs pioneering the legal cannabis scene in Massachusetts. She has earned bylines at ThinkProgressSpare Change NewsJournalist's Resource, Futurity, and other publications. On the side, Jessica works on numerous creative projects—from zine making to embroidery—and eagerly wants to write more about the ocean, animals, microbiology, native plants, and our relationship to nature.
